WASHINGTON, D.C.—On the first anniversary of the 9/11 Commission Report, family members and experts challenged its veracity and comprehensiveness at hearings convened by Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) on July 22.
Congresswoman McKinney set the tone by reminding the assembled citizens and media in the stately Cannon Office Building hearing room of administration’s opposition to the commission, of the conflicts of interest among its members and of the omissions in the report. Many of the alleged hijackers are alive in Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Egypt, she said, yet the report failed to mention this. She lamented that the report did not cover the final $100,000 payment to hijacker Mohamed Atta from Saeed Sheikh or Bin Laden’s connection with the mujaheddin. Much “inconvenient information” was left out of the report, she said.

9/11 Families, Government Workers and Scholars Respond
On July 22, 2005, Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) and Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) will host a full-day briefing for Members of Congress and their staff in the Caucus Room, Cannon House Office Building, Room 345, Independence Ave. & First Street SE, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
One year after the release of the 9/11 Commission Final Report, family members of the victims of 9/11, Mindy Kleinberg and Laurie Van Auken (the “Jersey Girls”) will present a “Report Card” to address their still unanswered questions about the events of 9/11 and the lack of accountability for the security and intelligence failures that may have allowed these events to happen. Other experts will speak to the flaws in the 9/11 Commission’s process, including conflicts of interest, lack of transparency, investigative rigor and public input, and the many whistleblowers ignored by the Commission.

9/11: There is more to this story

THE SEPT. 11 commission report is now a year old. Many questions about the days leading up to Sept. 11, 2001 and who should be held accountable remain unanswered.
The report was a good beginning, but it requires a follow-up investigation, with subpoena power, to address the lack of accountability for security and intelligence failures that contributed to making us so vulnerable.
Flaws in the 9/11 Commission’s process included conflicts of interest, lack of transparency, questionable investigative rigor, and critical whistleblower information provided yet inexplicably left out of the report. It is time to pick up where the commission left off. Demand accountability and tell the rest of the 9/11 story.
