NEW YORK (Reuters) – Jimmy Walter has spent more than $3 million promoting a

conspiracy theory the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States were “an

inside job” and he is offering more cash to anyone who proves him wrong.

The millionaire activist is so convinced of a government cover-up he is

offering a $100,000 reward to any engineering student who can prove the

World Trade Center buildings crashed the way the government says.

A 9-11 rescue worker recently came forward to say he was told by FBI agents to “keep my mouth shut” about one of the “black boxes” a fellow firefighter helped locate at ground zero, contradicting the official story that none of the flight and cockpit data recorders were ever recovered in the wreckage of the World Trade Center (WTC) towers.

Honorary firefighter Mike Bellone claims he was approached by unknown bureau agents a short time after he and his partner, Nicholas DeMasi, a retired New York firefighter, found three of the four “black boxes” among the WTC rubble before January 2002.

The pair first claimed in an August 2003 book entitled Behind the Scene: Ground Zero to have found the data recorders.

DeMasi said the “black boxes” were found while he traversed “ground zero” in his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with three federal agents.

FBI and New York fire officials have denied ever finding the voice and data recorders.

Now Bellone claims agents were adamant about keeping the discovery a secret.

David Ray Griffin is one of the most respected philosophers of religion in North America. He is the author or editor of more than 24 academic books, including works co-written with the deans of world religions, Huston Smith and Martin Marty. He has lectured around the world, including at UBC.

Griffin is one of those profiled in the prestigious volume, A Handbook of Christian Theologians. He’s painstakingly probed countless philosophical challenges, from the question of why there is evil to the relationship between science and religion, for which he’s won numerous awards.

So why did this soft-spoken professor from the high-ranking Methodist-rooted School of Theology at Claremont, Calif., feel it necessary to risk his hard-earned reputation as a religion scholar to write one of the most incredible — in all senses of the word – political books of 2004?

In particular, there has been confusion recently in some quarters that our initiative is associated with Karl W.B. Schwarz, which is not the case.

The Nation – May 17 Issue

Richard Falk writes: The 9/11 Commission hearings have focused entirely on whether our leaders acted with due urgency, given the existence of warnings and clues that a major Al Qaeda attack in this country was in the offing. But there are some deeper concerns that have not been touched upon by the 9/11 Commission that relate to discrepancies between the official version of what happened on that fateful day in 2001 and what actually occurred. These discrepancies are credibly reported in a recently published book by the distinguished scholar David Ray Griffin titled The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11. Dear Fellow Citizens:

For the past three years the United States Department of Justice has been relentlessly engaged in actions geared towards covering up my reports and investigations into my allegations. These actions include gagging the United States Congress, blocking court proceedings in my case by invoking state secret privilege, quashing a subpoena for my deposition on information regarding 9/11, withholding documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act, and preventing the release of the Inspector General’s report of its investigations into my reports and allegations. My reports, many of which have been confirmed by the United States Senate and leaked memos by the Department of Justice, involve criminal conduct against our national interests, serious security breaches threatening our intelligence, intentional mistranslation of intelligence with severe consequences, and intentional blocking of certain terrorism and criminal cases from being investigated by our government officials.
