NEW YORK CITY, NY (Oct. 26, 2004) – An alliance of 100 prominent Americans and many family members of those killed on 9/11 today announced the release of the 911 Truth Statement, a call for immediate inquiry into evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur. The Statement supports an August 31st Zogby poll that found nearly 50% of New Yorkers believe the government had foreknowledge and “consciously failed to act,” with 66% wanting a new 9/11 investigation.

The Complaint petitions the Attorney General to launch an independent in-depth criminal and civil probe of significant 9/11 evidence and lines of inquiry suggesting grave official misconduct including criminal negligence, criminal facilitation, and accessorial abetment of murder, assault, insider trading, obstruction of justice, and other violations of New York law.

A dark cloud of suspicions hang over the attacks of 9/11 and the failure to fully and independently investigate the murder of nearly 3000. There are some who believe in the simplistic broad-brush notion that all cases of documented government negligence or even brazen FBI corruption are simply ‘cover’ for complicity of the government in the attacks. On the other hand, there are others who despite, as one case in point, a compellingly clear pattern of the FBI spiking promising field investigations who are reluctant to raise the specter that there were accomplices or facilitators on the inside; at least in print or publicly. The author of this new 9/11 expose falls into the second camp even as he advances evidence that could lead to a long over-due criminal inquiry and a real investigation.

Working from his home office in a small town in England, Darren Williams spent four weeks this summer making a short but startling video that raises novel questions about the 2001 attack on the Pentagon.
The video, “9/11: Pentagon Strike,” suggests that it was not American Airlines Flight 77 that slammed into the Pentagon, but a missile or a small plane.
With rock music as a backdrop, the video offers flashes of photographs taken shortly after impact, interspersed with witness accounts. The pictures seem incompatible with damage caused by a jumbo jet, and no one mentions seeing one. Red arrows point to unbroken windows in the burning building. Firefighters stand outside a perfectly round hole in a Pentagon wall where the Boeing 757 punched through; it is less than 20 feet in diameter.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
In her recent article (“Conspiracy Theories Flourish on the Internet”, Thursday, October 7), Carol Morello uses a popular but obviously flawed thesis claiming that American Airlines Flight 77 never actually hit the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, and was replaced with a missile or smaller plane, which somehow suggests government complicity or at least mendacity. She then uses this straw man to smear by implication all legitimate critical questioning of the 9/11 Commission’s investigation and Final Report as “conspiracy theory”.
The article quotes a variety of “experts” to drag out the same tired canards about so-called “conspiracy theorists”.

Philip Zelikow, a high-level national security adviser to both Bush administrations, acknowledges that America faces a new infectious disease: lack of faith in the U.S. government’s 9/11 Commission report.
As executive director of the freshly-retired Kean Commission, Zelikow was a principal author of the 567-page document, which purports to explain everything that matters about September 11th, 2001.
Sales of the 9/11 report have far outpaced those of his earlier study in statecraft, “Germany Unified and Europe Transformed.” He co-wrote that book in 1999 with one of his closest associates from the original Bush White House, Condoleeza Rice.
Despite blockbuster sales for the 9/11 report, Zelikow tells the Washington Post he is alarmed by the concurrent spread of “conspiracy theories” about the attacks, which he describes as pathogens:
